Openness and Transparency begets Openness and Transparency

Did they use AI?

Every recruiter, interviewer, academic, every manager of people ponders this now and does so with concern. A concern that what has been produced, regardless of the value, might not be on the up and up and the person behind it is trying to trick me.

A recent internal article (sorry, can’t share) explored this new reality in the job interview process. The author offered a simple bit of advice:

accept reality.

The reality is people WILL use AI in these situations and others and maybe instead of condemning the individual, recognize the creativity and innovation behind it. Actually go a step further and make it PART of the hiring process. That’s right. Let’s see how good you really are with the tools we’re all being asked to use now! Isn’t that the point? Not just to find the right candidate for now but the one that’s going to propel the business forward?

** The author wasn’t completely Pollyanna with this hot take however. She acknowledged that there are certainly roles that require way more knowledge and skills beyond the use of AI, and those need to be surfaced accurately. However, there is the very strong possibility that AI will impact all work, even work that isn’t AI-centric, and don’t you want to know that a candidate gets that reality?

If this made you think, pass it along.
