Pet the rabbit

The people who thrive in an AI world may be the ones who still care to pet the rabbit.

Silly as it sounds, stay with me a minute.

There’s a lot of talk still about which jobs AI will take and which jobs will be left for humans. As if we’re dividing up the work and figuring out who gets what. But I don’t think that’s how this actually plays out. I think there will just be jobs. Different jobs, changing jobs, maybe fewer of some and more of others.

And the people who thrive in them? I suspect they’ll be the curious ones. The ones who care enough to get closer to the actual work. Think about it…

AI can produce a report from a mountain of data but will the analyst care enough to walk through the warehouse, talk to the people doing the work, and discover what’s really behind those numbers?

AI can produce a course in minutes, but will the learning professional care enough to spend time with employees and figure out whether a course is even needed?

AI can analyze customer feedback, but will someone care enough to actually sit with a frustrated customer and understand what they’re experiencing?

See, I don’t think the future is about finding the things AI can’t do. That list is going to keep getting shorter. The lesson is – Spend more time becoming the kind of person who cares about what the work is actually trying to accomplish.

Be curious, be kind, experience and notice what others overlook.

Because sometimes there’s a rabbit sitting right in front of you… and nobody asked you to pet it, but you want to. Lean into that.

If this made you think, pass it along.
